Ben Aketil Wind Farm C&J Dobbin have completed the High Voltage cable jointing and terminating works at the Ben Aketil wind farm on the Isle of Skye on behalf of Scottish Hydro Contracting. The project encompassed all 33kV terminating, jointing, and sheath repair works associated with ten Eurocon 2.5MW turbines, associated infrastructure, and main sub-station. The project was a delight to work on as it was extremely well managed on and off site and we hope that we were able to demonstrate our experience, quality of workmanship, and general work ethos. Edgar Allen - South Queensferry Completion Date; Sept 2007 C&J Dobbin were appointed directly by Edgar Allen to decommission fifteen 11kV/433V Distribution Transformers, Ring Main Units, and associated cabling from their new plant at South Queensferry. The project is well underway and involves all cable identification, cable spiking, PCB Analysis, removal of the units, and re-commissioning of the system in line with our clients requirements. C&J Dobbin have been able to meet and on occasions exceed our clients expectations to allow the tight program associated with demolition works to progress as intended. Marks and Spencer - Princess St. - Edinburgh Completion Date; Aug 2007
C&J Dobbin carried out all High Voltage Cable Jointing and Termination works, SAP HV Switching, and Pressure Testing as part of the refurbishment of the Princess St. M&S. The project consisted of a new 2 x 1000kVA packaged sub-station/switchboard and the associated HV switches. The final changeover to the new supply and switchgear involved a short duration shutdown that had to be managed to allow all frozen and refrigerated food equipment to remain energised whilst the final cable connections were being made. John Annan of Fletchers Retail said "C&J Dobbin did an excellent job, and made a very stressful weekend a lot easier". The project was a success and we look forward to providing our services on future projects with Fletchers and Twyver Switchgear. INEOS - G4 Substation Refurbishment Completion Date; June 2007
As part of our ongoing works with Watson Norie within INEOS' site at Grangemouth, we provided the High Voltage cable jointing and cable termination services for the refurbishment of the G4 sub-station. The project involved the installation of a new 3.3kV switchboard with all existing supply cables being extended, re-routed, and re-terminated where necessary. In order to minimise production down time a series of intense short duration shut downs were programmed to allow the Hazardous Area type jointing to be carried out. C&J Dobbin were able to meet the program to allow successful completion of the project. Wharrels Hill Wind Farm Completion Date; March 2007 No. of Turbines - 8 Termination Type: Pfisterer/Euromold High Pow Wind Farm Completion Date; March 2007 No. of Turbines - 3 Termination Type: Pfisterer/Euromold Earlesburn Wind Farm Completion Date; February 2007 No. of Turbines - 15 Termination Type: Pfisterer/Euromold Black Law Wind Farm Completion Date; January 2006 No. of Turbines - 54 Termination Type: Pfisterer/Euromold
Initially we were appointed by Alfred McAlpine to carry out the 33kV cable termination and jointing works only, however our role was then extended to provide the Testing and Earth Sheath Fault location on the H.V. infrastructure cabling throughout the site. Due to the terrain and below ground conditions where the H.V. cabling was run, several Earth Sheath faults had been present. Working closely with Alfred McAlpines site based staff, we were able to swiftly pinpoint all faults to allow us to rectify them with minimal disruption to the finished ground levels and avoid unnecessary delays. Charles Dobbin said "It's a project that we are proud to be associated with as this wind farm is the largest on shore type in the UK to date. It is likely that this wind farm will be the flagship of Scottish Powers renewable scheme for some time to come. Black Law is the new benchmark as it has been completed with an amazing fifty-four turbines, which should make a significant contribution in assisting the UK meeting it's renewable energy targets".
